Corona-Based Online Boutique Twig And Sparrow Is Launched
Online, April 19, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Demetra Cornwell has put her creative outlet into soft, earth-toned fabrics, masses of tulle, a few pieces of plume, and yards of chiffon to create inspiring hair pieces for women and girls of all ages. She has taken her pasttime of sewing and turned it into artisan-crafted scarves and unique yet functional blankets. As of this week, they are all now available for purchase on her new online boutique Twig and Sparrow.
It started when Cornwell's husband came to her one night last March with a pile of tee shirts he was no longer wearing and asked her to 'do something fun' with them. In no time, Cornwell ended up twisting and tying together dozens of fabric rosettes, test-driving them on a necklace, a headband, and her daughters' shirts. Her inspiration to start making more and selling them out of her Eagle Glen home began growing when she started taking photographs of her three year-old daughter modeling her creations. As a mother of a five year-old, three year-old, and fifteen month-old, she found that this hobby became a peaceful and fulfilling escape from the everyday challenges of motherhood.
Every night, while the kids sleep, Cornwell would take out her mother's vintage Kenmore sewing machine, some needles, her glue gun, threads, and cutting tools. By the wee hours of the night, she has created half a dozen prototypes and copies, ready to be photographed and posted on her website. For now, she is a one-woman show, launching her business and piecing together more one-of-a-kind accessories, all the while taking her three children along for the ride, from county offices to wholesalers, retailers, to accountants. 'It's a challenge', she says, 'but seeing the end product and putting it in my smiling daughter's hair makes it all worth it.'
