Cornell University's College of Human Ecology Honors Rachel Doyle with "Recent Alumni Achievement Award"
Online, April 20, 2010 (Newswire.com) - GlamourGals is proud to announce that its founder, Rachel Doyle, has been chosen as the recipient of the Cornell Recent Alumni Achievement Award for her work with the foundation. Corey Ryan Earle, a member of Cornell's Alumni Affairs, nominated Rachel for the award.
At only 17 years old, Rachel was motivated by her own grandmother, Teeny, to start the first GlamourGals chapter. She started visiting senior homes with her two friends and offering complimentary makeovers to the women living there. Rachel's mission was to get teens involved with the elderly community in a more fun and creative atmosphere by allowing them to volunteer by giving makeovers. GlamourGals has frequently attracted attention from national media outlets for its unique and exciting mission. Today, in its 10th year, GlamourGals boasts 35 chapters and has expanded beyond its 3 original volunteers to include Julia Porter, the Director of Programs, as well as prestigious advisory and executive board members.
Each year, the Human Ecology Alumni Association (HEAA) at Cornell University presents two distinct awards to two alumni of the College of Human Ecology: the Helen Bull Vandervort Alumni Achievement Award and the Recent Alumni Achievement Award. The HEAA Honors and Recognition Committee is responsible for administering the award selection processes. This year, Rachel is privileged to be chosen as the winner of the Recent Alumni Achievement Award.
"This award means so much to me because it was at Cornell that I was able to implement the systems and structures that has allowed GlamourGals to continually grow," said Rachel Doyle. "I am honored to be recognized and am grateful that this recognition is coming from an institution that is so dear to my heart."
Rachel will be honored at the HEAA's Annual Meeting on April 22, 2010 at the Cornell Club of New York. In addition to being presented with a physical award, she will be featured in an alumni showcase in the College of Human Ecology for one year. Presented annually since 1999, the Recent Alumni Award seeks to recognize alumni who graduated within the past fifteen years who have demonstrated excellence and personal commitment to professional, community, College or University activities. Rachel is incredibly honored and humbled by the University's decision to present her with this award.
