CommTel Achieves Prestigious Security Certification
Melbourne, Australia, November 2, 2017 (Newswire.com) - CommTel Network Solutions, a leading international provider of advanced and engineered solutions for mission and business critical networks, is pleased to announce that it has successfully attained the International Organisation for Standardisation certification for ISO/IEC 27001:2013. This prestigious certification is an important addition to the existing certifications in Quality (ISO 9001:2008) and Health & Safety (OHSAS 18001:2007, AS/NZS 4801:2001).
The ISO/IEC 27001:2013 certification confirms that CommTel operates an Information Security Management System (ISMS) that complies with the requirements of the standard, through the secure management of the infrastructure, facilities and IT environments that support the delivery of dedicated communication networks to customers. CommTel Chief Executive Officer, Robert Green explains, “CommTel has information security controls and risk treatment in place to prevent and defend against potential data system vulnerabilities, which helps ensure that information assets such as financial information, intellectual property, employee details and customer information is secure. However, our Security Management System at CommTel goes well beyond traditional Information Security, as it also considers the need to protect the assets that store and use that information, such as hardware, software, buildings and of course our key asset – our people. This holistic approach provides extra assurance to our customers and staff that we will protect their information.”
CommTel’s ISMS was developed and implemented under guidance from Enex Carbon for a period of 18 months from March 2016 to September 2016. A series of internal and external assessments verified CommTel’s adherence to the ISMS controls, and its institutionalization of ISO standard practices across the organization. Mark Jones, Enex Carbon Chief Executive Officer, elaborates, “CommTel has truly embraced a security focus across the organisation. The leadership and staff understand that even with the best policies, procedures and technical controls in place, the key is really to focus on people and their behaviour. CommTel realised this early in their ISO/IEC 27000 journey, and implemented a comprehensive security campaign aimed at educating all staff on how to keep information and other assets secure.”
Security at CommTel is much more than internal organisational structure, processes and procedures, as the company also specialises in delivering secure network solutions directly to its customers. CommTel Chief Executive Officer, Robert Green further explains, “At CommTel, we partner with our customers in the mining, utilities, emergency services and transport sectors to help them achieve business benefits through optimising their existing networks, as well as delivering network transformation programs that provide a seamless transition from legacy to IP-based technology. We ensure that security is inherent in these customer solutions, through secure design as well as closely collaborating with hardware and software vendors to ensure their products are inherently secure. Additionally, our Cyber Security Operations Centre delivers value-added services to our customers in the security domain, including vulnerability management, patch management, anomaly detection and ICS-SCADA hardening, which provide further assurance for the life of the network.”
