Commitment to Saving Lives on Road 2020: Oman
Online, January 19, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Over 1300km of new and upgraded roads are being planned in a major overhaul of the Sultanate's transport network for better on-road connectivity and safer commutation for the citizens of Oman. To tackle the current threat of increased number of road accidents in the MENA region, the Ministry of Transport and Communications is now studying the public transport facilities in Muscat to prepare a master plan for regulating the sector. The government is also finalizing the Land Transport Law wherein a national committee for land transport, while another committees are being formed to facilitate trade, especially with other GCC countries.
To be a partner in beloved Oman's journey towards excellence under visionary & wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, supported by ITS Arab, Fleming Gulf has launched the Middle East Road Safety & ITS Summit. The summit will be held on 12 - 13 May 2014 at Muscat, Oman. The authorities, government organizations and stakeholders will learn from the best practices to synchronize their thoughts and coordinate their efforts in order to strategically adapt to the current trends in Road Safety & ITS.
In the MENA region, accidents kill 17 to 22 people per 100,000 of population every year, compared with an OECD average of 6.2 per 100,000.
