Commemorating Chicana Role Model Michele Serros - Attention Shoppers: Chicana Falsa CD Is Now Available

Commemorating Michele Serros’ 50th birthday her “Selected Stories from Chicana Falsa” CD, which includes recordings of the acclaimed “Dead Pig's Revenge” and “Attention Shoppers,” is being rereleased today and available for download at chicanafalsa(dot)com.

Serros’ only recorded spoken word CD includes 12 poems and stories from her first book, Chicana Falsa: And Other Stories of Death, Identity, and Oxnard. Originally released in 1996, the CD has been updated with new, previously unreleased photos. Actor Del Zamora and Chicano writer/performer Luis Alfaro are two of the many talented performers who joined Serros in the recording.

Serros was an exceptional storyteller and commentator who spoke for a generation of Chicanas and inspired young writers across the country and around the globe. Ahead of her time, Serros wrote about identity, death and her experience as a 4th generation Californian. She published her first book in 1993 while she was still a student at UCLA. How To Be A Chicana Role Model was later published in 2000. These books and her other two, Honey Blonde Chica, and Scandalosa! are available at miralamichele(dot)com.

The rerelease of Serros’ CD commemorates what would have been her 50th birthday on February 10 and comes out just in time for Valentine’s Day. It is the perfect gift for that someone special that says, “I love you, now pass the chicharrones!”

Serros died on January 4, 2015 of adenoid cystic carcinoma of the salivary gland at her home in Berkeley, California.
