Combating Youth Suicide with Music
Rahat Chowdhury
The National Center for the Prevention of Youth Suicide
Rahat, a hip hop artist hailing from the Bronx, N.Y., will be participating in a charity project in order to raise funds for the National Center for the Prevention of Youth Suicide (NCPYS). With the help of several producers from across the globe, Rahat will release an album titled The Hero EP. It is set for release on World Suicide Prevention Day, September 10th, 2013. All profits from the sale of Hero EP will be donated to The National Center for the Prevention of Youth Suicide (NCPYS), a program run by the American Association of Suicidology. This is a program dedicated to teaching people how to recognize warning signs many youth give before committing suicide and teaching how to intervene in order to save their lives. More information on their mission and programs can be found at http://www.suicidology.org/ncpys-about.
The remixes featured on The Hero EP will consist of several different electronic dance music genres. These will include a compilation of remixes of Rahat's song Hero. Rahat was inspired to take the original hip hop and pop record of the same name and transform it into something completely new and different. All versions of the song are inspired by Rahat's passion for preventing youth committing suicide, a mission which began in memory of his friend, who took his own life while Rahat attended high school. The song as well as the national campaign has now evolved and is aimed at helping others not make the same decision as Rahat's friend. Besides the digital release there is also merchandise being designed which supporters will be able to purchase to help out in the cause.
Supporters of the album can help out by visiting the Facebook page and "liking" it. The Facebook page can be found at https://www.facebook.com/TheHeroEp. In addition, The Hero EP will be released via iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Spotify and many more digital music services.
Rahat is also available to take interviews regarding this campaign.
