Clean the World Announces Partnership With Summit Hotel Properties

Hygiene Products to be Recycled for Worldwide Distribution

Clean the World, a leader in global health dedicated to WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) and global sustainability, partners with Summit Hotel Properties to collect and recycle hotel soap and bottled amenities to help fight the spread of preventable diseases.

On average, more than 3,600 children die every day from hygiene-related illnesses, primarily pneumonia and diarrheal disease, which are two of the top killers of children under the age of 5. Hand washing with soap is a low-cost intervention that can reduce those deaths by almost 50 percent. Since 2009, Clean the World has contributed to a 60 percent reduction in pre-adolescent deaths from hygiene-related illnesses by providing soap and hygiene education to make hand washing a lifelong habit and encourage vigorous childhood development.

Summit Hotels Properties, a leading publicly-traded lodging real estate investment trust focused on owning premium branded hotels with efficient operating models, owns over 11,500 guestrooms and is projected to provide over 30,000 pounds of soap to Clean the World annually. This equates to an estimated 13,500 bars of newly recycled soap going out to individuals in need domestically and internationally.

"We are pleased to add Summit Hotel Properties to our hospitality recycling program," said Shawn Seipler, founder and CEO of Clean the World. "By diverting their leftover soap and bottle amenities from landfills, Summit helps Clean the World provide health and hygiene programs to children around the world."

Through this partnership, newly recycled bars of Clean the World soap will make their way to shelters, food banks, and disaster relief initiatives in the United States, in addition to supporting hygiene education internationally through Clean the World Foundation's WASH Education programming. These programs in India, Kenya, and Tanzania have seen up to a 97 percent decrease in cases of hygiene-related illnesses, helping to keep children healthy and in school.
