Church Looking to "Reach" Out Changes Name
Bear, Delaware , June 12, 2017 (Newswire.com) - On Sunday, May 21, 2017, Glasgow Church officially changed its name to Reach Church.
Glasgow Church, formally known as Glasgow Reformed Presbyterian Church, has been an important part of the community since its founding in 1986. During its 31 years of ministry, the church has been known for its preaching, music, Christmas dramatic musicals, and numerous church plants.
With the change to Reach Church, it looks to engage its mission in a new way. “I know the new name will take some time to grow on us, but I am more concerned that the new name grow inside of us,” says Senior Pastor Chuck L. Betters. “Our new name, Reach Church, is our mission: ‘To live to reach all people with Nothing But Jesus.’"
The message of “Nothing But Jesus” expresses Pastor Chuck’s conviction that Jesus and nothing else saves. The mission of the church is to reach out to the community with that message. Therefore, the church intends to highlight in a new way serving the community, loving one’s neighbors, and engaging new people. For example, earlier in the year, the church hosted Tim Tebow’s Night to Shine, a prom for individuals with special needs, a group often left unreached by many churches.
The church is also looking to “reach” people through its unique multi-campus model. Reach Church currently consists of three campuses: the original campus on Summit Bridge Road, a campus at Red Lion Christian Academy, and a campus on Singerly Road in Fair Hill, MD, which together total an average of 1500 unique attendees a month. Each congregation shares the same vision but, with its own preaching and worship, is able to uniquely engage its local community. Before the change to Reach Church, each campus of Reach Church had a different name, obscuring the larger mission and unity of the church.
Pastor Chuck L. Betters continued by saying, “It is wonderful that we have launched a new name not from a position of weakness but from a position of spiritual and numerical growth. Just this year, our attendance has grown 7 percent and our giving has increased by 14 percent. However, attendance and money are not important if we are not reaching people, and if we ourselves aren't being reached and changed by Nothing But Jesus. This simple message is changing and saving lives.”
Additionally, Reach Church owns and operates four schools: Red Lion Christian Academy, Tall Oaks Classical School, Glasgow Christian Academy, and Journey Christian Academy. These schools are collectively known as Reach Christian Schools and have over 1,000 students in attendance. They see their mission as reaching the community by building and training the next generation.
Reach Church meets for Sunday morning services at 10:30am at each of its campuses. The Summit Bridge Road Campus is located at 2880 Summit Bridge Rd., Bear, DE. The Red Lion Campus is located at 1390 Red Lion Rd Bear, DE (on the campus of Reach Christian Schools). The Fair Hill Campus is located at 2420 Singerly Rd, Elkton, MD. Reach Church is part of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) denomination.
