Christ Church Lutheran, San Francisco, CA

Located in the Sunset District of San Francisco, Christ Church Lutheran invites the neighborhood to come worship with them this Holy Week.  The Great and Holy Week is the culmination of Lent and the transition to Easter, the Queen of Feasts and the most holy Pascha.  At Christ Church, the context of worship is always the needs of the people of faith living their Christianity in the 21st century, but during the Great and Holy Week, “we are drawn closer to the central mysteries of the faith:  Our redemption and incorporation into Christ’s Body, the Church, by way of liturgies little changed since the 4th century.”  The community is invited to draw near to the Easter mystery and to renew their faith by joining Christ Church’s congregation in worship.

ABOUT CHRIST CHURCH LUTHERAN:

Founded in September 1912, Christ Church Lutheran (CCL) celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2012.  Today, CCL continues its ministry in the outer Sunset District of San Francisco.  In that century CCL has built two buildings, belonged to three Lutheran denominations (LC-MS, AELC, and ELCA), and had four senior pastors.  CCL gives thanks to God for the many blessings they have received and the great cloud of witnesses who have worshiped and shared in the ministry that is Christ Church.

Rooted in the unchanging Grace of God, adapting to the needs of its people, the city, and the world, CCL looks forward to the next 100 years in the words of its newly adopted mission statement:

“Thankful for God's love, we welcome all people into this community of worship. Celebrating the diversity of our experiences as well as the joy and faith we all share in Jesus Christ, we challenge each other to live the Gospel and commit ourselves to service in the world.”
