Case Study: Aspect Exhibitions' Work for Swissport at Munich's Transport Logistic 2017 Exhibition

Aspect Exhibitions has been chosen by Swissport to design their custom exhibition stand for the Transport Logistic 2017 exhibition.

Aspect Exhibitions likes to get its teeth into a good project, so the company was delighted when Swissport — the world’s biggest independent provider of airport ground services (ticketing, baggage handling and suchlike) — got in touch. They were looking for an exhibition stand contractor to help them maximise their presence at the recent Transport Logistic 2017 exhibition (http://www.transportlogistic.de/index-2.html), held in Munich.

Transport Logistic is a huge and prestigious trade fair, so Aspect's friends at Swissport wanted a custom exhibition stand that would not only reflect their high standing and professionalism within the travel industry, but also help them stand out and attract visitors in a crowded exhibition space.

An Exhibition Stand of Two Halves

So what was Aspect looking at? Well, they had a stand space measuring 5 x 7 metres and open on all four sides. Swissport’s brief was for Aspect to create a stand of two halves. One half would be open and inviting for visitors, giving a clean, modern look and feel. The other half was to represent a mocked-up warehouse, its design to feature printed graphics to represent wooden packing crates.

When it comes to creating beautiful custom exhibition stands like this, everything Aspect does is done in-house. The company's design team appreciates an interesting brief such as Swissport’s, and chose a versatile 80mm x 80mm modular exhibition system as the framework on which to build this project. This was infilled with a combination of printed rigid foam panels and printed tensioned fabric — plenty here to keep Aspect's team busy! Aspect also produced and finished all of the stand’s bespoke counter tops in its own workshop, using its CNC equipment to machine them into shape and then laminating them to produce a beautiful, durable finish.

From Northampton to Munich – With Time to Spare!

Of course, once one has their exhibition stand completed in the U.K. there’s just the small matter of getting it from Aspect's base in Northampton, U.K. to — in this case — Munich, Germany. Oh, and Aspect's team will need to send a couple of their guys over there too, but that’s fine — they don’t mind a bit of international travel at Aspect Exhibitions even though it usually means little time for relaxing.

Timeliness is crucial factor in this business, and the Swissport project was no exception. Each and every element of Swissport’s exhibition stand was packed and palletised, checking off every item against a comprehensive packing list. (One thing nobody wants is a last-minute panic because components are missing when Aspect's team comes to install an exhibition stand overseas).

Collected from Northampton on the Thursday before the exhibition, the pallet arrived safely at the exhibition space just 24 hours later — ready for Aspect's guys to install over the weekend ahead of the show.

Setting Up for the Show

Transport Logistic is held at the Messe München exhibition centre, about twenty minutes by train from central Munich. As one of Europe’s most popular event venues, Messe München boasts some pretty impressive facts and figures. It features sixteen ultra-modern and column-free exhibition halls, 180,000 m² of exhibition space and around 400,000 m² of outdoor space. In 2006, Messe München was transformed into the media centre of the FIFA World Cup and also hosted the church service during the Pope's visit.

Each year, more than 30,000 exhibitors and over two million visitors from around the world attend the centre’s own events and around 250 guest events. In other words, this is one busy exhibition centre!

Anyway, having arrived in the city the previous day, Aspect's expert installers made their way to the Messe München in good time on the Saturday morning to assemble Swissport's exhibition stand.

This involved laying the floor, putting together the modular system, fitting the graphics panels and — to make sure everything looked great on the day — installing a suitable lighting system. Setting up an exhibition stand is demanding (but rewarding) work, and at the end of the first day, Aspect's guys rewarded themselves by heading back into the beautiful city of Munich on the pristine and mega-efficient U-bahn and enjoying a well-deserved beer in the spring sunshine.

Of course, there’s more to this lark than simply assembling the exhibition stand itself. The next day Aspect's duo returned to the exhibition centre to complete the wiring for power distribution to the lighting, desk, LED display screen and all important coffee station, and took care of a few other bits and pieces.

With Swissport's custom exhibition stand in place, looking good, and ready to rock the crowds at Transport Logistic 2017, all Aspect's team needed to do on the last day before the show was to pack and palletise the empty boxes and unused stand components for storage and give the stand area a professional clean and tidy.

Aspect's Part in the Most Successful Transport Logistics Exhibition Ever

Transport Logistic is held every two years, and according to the final report from the organisers, 2017’s event achieved record participation figures: 2,162 exhibitors from 62 countries showcased their products and services at the industry's leading international trade fair, a rise of 5.4 percent. The number of visitors rose by 9.5 percent to 60,726 from 123 countries.

The exhibition space covered by the trade fair grew to 115,000 square meters, with all nine available halls fully booked.

In addition to new exhibitors from all around the world, there were 17 national pavilions covering every destination from Bahrain to China and Slovenia. The top ten exhibiting countries, after Germany, were: Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, France, Austria, Spain, UK, the Czech Republic, Poland and China.

Aspect Exhibitions were proud to have been involved in this year’s successful Transport Logistic event and, of course, were delighted to have helped Swissport achieve its own share of success at the show by creating, delivering and installing a high-performing custom exhibition stand tailored exactly for them.

No time for “resting on laurels” though; it’s upwards and onwards as there’s always another project to fulfill and another customer to satisfy.

Maybe next time it’ll be you?
