Cary Company Donates Nearly $100,000 Worth of Medical Supplies to Haiti Relief

After reading reports that emergency medical supplies in Haiti are running dangerously low, company donates much-needed sutures, blades and needles to doctors and hospitals

February 5, 2010 †Alarming reports out of Haiti indicate that emergency medical teams are in desperate need of medical equipment, including surgical supplies.

• Partners in Health predicts 20,000 people are dying each day who could be saved by surgery.
• Doctor's Without Borders reports needing to use a common saw to handle amputations.
• This week USA Today reported that seasoned doctors have described the medical situation in Haiti as "unlike anything they have ever experienced before".

Cary-based MYCO is taking action by donating surgical equipment so physicians have the resources they need to care for the most vulnerable patients. MYCO Medical employees are packing up nearly $100,000 worth of sutures, scalpels, blades, special procedure needles and other medical supplies that will be used by doctors in Haiti to close wounds and perform surgeries. The supplies will be given to "The Haiti Connection", who will ship the medical equipment to Haiti. The need is so desperate, members of "The Haiti Connection" are trying to get the supplies shipped out later the same day. The director of "The Haiti Connection" and several local students who have asked to volunteer in support of Haiti efforts, will be at MYCO Medical on Monday morning loading the supplies.
