Capitol Hill Martial Arts Academy Announces CrossFit Training & Relocation
Online, October 21, 2012 (Newswire.com) - MAFA, DC's popular Capitol Hill martial arts training center for women and children, made two important announcements this week: Patrick Johnson, founder of CrossFit Capitol Hill, has joined the MAFA team as Director of CrossFit Training. And, MAFA will relocate from shared space at Hill Center on Penn Ave, SE to its own building at 201 15th St, SE. Classes will start there on November 5, 2012.
"The addition of CrossFit training is a natural next step for MAFA," says owner Rita Floyd. "Martial Arts and Crossfit have a lot in common, and here at MAFA they both help us answer the needs of the community for responsible fitness training, strength building, and confidence boosting--especially by those who may not feel like a more traditional gym is the right place for them."
When MAFA opened in the fall of 2010, it was (and still is) the only martial arts training facility specializing in classes for women and children in the United States. The emphasis on self-defense training and anti-bullying programs put MAFA in the spotlight and made it the gym of choice for many individuals and families on Capitol Hill and throughout the DC Metro region.
MAFA program offerings for adults and children include Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), Thai Boxing, Warrior Yoga (yoga for athletes), and mixed martial arts. Now, CrossFit training will be on the program menu at MAFA.
When MAFA reopens in its new location it will also begin using the new name Capitol Hill Martial Arts and CrossFit Academy. "We'll always be MAFA..that part is a keeper," says Floyd, "but we are really excited to bring CrossFit into our branding as well as our new building."
