CAN Community Health Partners With Multiple Community Organizations to Provide Aid for the Bahamas
SARASOTA, Fla., September 9, 2019 (Newswire.com) - In the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian, CAN Community Health, a Sarasota-based non-profit, is collecting supplies to provide relief, aid and comfort to the victims of the storm. CAN Community Health, an organization that specializes in infectious disease care and prevention, is opening their national headquarters as a donation collection center and partnering with other organizations to see the initiative through.
“Seeing the total devastation in the Bahamas, our organization felt compelled to step up and provide as much support and relief as possible,” Richard E. Carlisle, President and CEO, CAN Community Health said. “Our new headquarters is central to Sarasota and offers a prime location for collecting donations.”
CAN Community Health, along with Sarasota Military Academy, Rectrix Aerodrome Center, Two Men and a Truck, Angel Flight Southeast and Gold Aviation, are working to collect supplies for the victims of Hurricane Dorian. Donated items will be accepted at CAN Community Health’s National Headquarters on 4440 Fruitville Road in Sarasota and later distributed to the Bahama islands affected by the storm. Transportation of materials from Sarasota to Fort Lauderdale will be provided by Two Men and a Truck, and the donations will be carried by aircraft to the Bahamas through both Angel Flight Southeast and Gold Aviation.
“With clinics throughout the state, we were preparing for impact in the face of Dorian,” Richard E. Carlisle said, “We were lucky to avoid the storm, and now we can use our position to aid the people of the Bahamas.”
A full list of recommended items and supplies for donation can be found by visiting CAN Community Health’s website and social media platforms. The list includes basic supplies like canned goods, non-perishables, water and hygiene items, as well as medical supplies and medications like gauze, bandages, aspirin and ibuprofen.
CAN Community Health will be accepting donations during its regular business hours from 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays and from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Fridays. Donations will continue through the next two weeks until Friday, September 20. In structuring a longer-term donation schedule, CAN hopes to provide ongoing relief to the region, as efforts are sure to continue indefinitely in repairing the islands.
