Kander & Ebb's jazz musical CABARET is getting an exciting LA revamp in response to the Broadway Revival...

CABARET's Broadway revival, currently experiencing criticism for being both "stale" and "fresh" (a confusing combination of reviews) has inspired a Los Angeles stop of theTRIBE Productions' CABARET tour.

"Our CABARET," says the show's director Christopher Chase, "is built around the characterization presented in 'Goodbye to Berlin,' [the original first hand account of 1920s and 30s Berlin by Christopher Isherwood]. It's a much more honest and moving account of this musical than the dirty-for-no-reason statements being made in New York."

In a stark contrast to the Emcee (Alan Cumming) and Sally Bowles (Michelle Williams)-centric version being presented on Broadway, which strays so far into camp territory that pineapple chandeliers and swastika buttocks stickers make appearances, theTRIBE's CABARET instead grounds the piece in reality. This allows the show to focus on filling out the characters that are too-often overlooked, such as an additional main love interest and examples of how the expanding power of the Nazi party affected both Germans and Jews.

theTRIBE's version, which stays 100% true to the lines and songs of the musical while building onto the story in background scenes, choreography, and an original set design that gives the audience a peek into the living arrangements of the characters, is being hailed as "awe-inspiring" (Theatre Beat) and "brilliant" (SF Weekly).

CABARET performs under the stars as a part of LA SummerFest's Outdoor Arts Festival, where the sold-out HAIR played last year. Don't miss out!
