Business Man Takes On White Collar Rap

Is this Beloved party boy and successful business man's foray into the music business a sign of the economic times? -Yes, the good times!

In this economic climate, where unemployment hovers around 10% and underemployment is estimated at 20%, Kal Wayman, has a message for the discouraged-"Seize the day, use this economic downturn to create new opportunities and to pursue your dreams".

At first glance, Kal Wayman, known as Low Kal to the music industry, may seem unlikely as an inspirational force. The LA Times called one of his controversial, tongue-in-cheek videos "The most disturbing TV mortgage ad we've ever seen". But the "you-can-do-anything-you-set-your-mind-to" message is one Kal Wayman lives everyday (And one to which the LA Times acknowledged in later articles). And while you have to look deeper than babe's in bikinis marketing tactics, now rocking Youtube, the message is clear: Live life to its fullest, even if that means maintaining two careers. "It's truly a double life," says Kal, of his hardcore business days in the mortgage business, his long nights in the recording studio or hitting the Atlanta clubs, and his adventures to the Playboy Mansion and the Hamptons. But this is just as it should be according to Kal, whose mantra is, "Work hard, play harder".

This time last year, Kal took this mantra to a new level when he decided to add the designation of Rap Artist to his business man bio, after 12 successful years focused only on the financial sector. Kal had written rap since the early age of 12, but after a devastating blow to his mortgage empire late in 2009, he dove headfirst into the music industry, producing videos, album covers, recording songs, and, "simply doing what I've always done in any business-work hard," says Kal. He released his first single, "Because I Can" a few months later, and then "I Got a Table", which now has over 16,000 views on Youtube and its own channel on Pandora-all while maintaining his mortgage career.

In the mortgage business, much of what Kal had built for years was taken away, because of corporate policy changes, a challenge to which so many Americans can relate. "I was devastated," admits Kal, "because I'd worked so hard to build it, but I knew the response was to move forward, to take lemons and make lemonade-so I took lemons and made music."

Kal didn't lose his job, as so many have, but he did reinvent his career with a duality he asserts as very satisfying. Despite the mortgage business reengineering, Kal did over $60 million of mortgage business in 2010 and continues to produce at this rate. On the other side of his double life, Kal was the #2 "Headliner" last week on Headliner.fm, reaching 1.2 million fans. "It feels great to turn that negative energy I was dealt last year into an even more positive lifestyle . . . to pursue my passion for music, to fuel creative marketing in my mortgage career, and to connect with people through business, social and creative outlets all at once," says Kal. His clever single, "Because I Can" says it all, in a lighthearted, unprecedented fashion. "Fortunes are often made in a down market," Kal says, "I hope those who've been through tough times will see what I'm doing and recognize the doors they can open for themselves . . . or at least have a good laugh!"
