Brian Russell NFL Encourages Boys & Girls Club to Continue Building Educational Offerings
Online, June 20, 2012 (Newswire.com) - The Boys & Girls Club of Manhatten, Kan. is getting a big educational boast from PCS Edventures! According to a Wall Street Journal article, PCS is shipping its newest robotics programs, focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), to the Boys and Girls Club. Advocate Brian Russell applauds PCS' efforts to reach out to the Boys & Girls Club, particularly when many school systems are trying to cut corners to save dollars.
The Boys & Girls Club touches the lives of more than 4 million young people annually through nearly 4,000 clubs in the United States. The organization's mission is to provide an outlet for young people to become productive, caring and responsible citizens. Each year, the Boys & Girls Club serves more than 2,000 youths. The approximately $86,000 order of PCS robotics programs will go to two of their school-based locations to provide students with hands-on activities.
"The robotics and engineering curriculum from PCS will be a nice addition to our science program for our 21st Century Community Learning Center," said John Jobe, unit director for the Boys & Girls Club of Manhatten Lee Elementary School. "Our students are looking forward to learning how to build robots."
Brian Russell said the effort is a real milestone for both organizations. "It is great to see an emphasis on math and science in the recent work between the Boys & Girls Club and PCS," he said. "With funding cutbacks showing across the board in school systems, the Boys & Girls Club is taking the initiative to support our kids."
Nicole Hirai, an education specialist with PCS, added, "Robotics and engineering are natural, hands-on ways to learn Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. We look forward to working with the Boys & Girls Club of Manhattan and other Boys & Girls Clubs to make this a valuable experience for their students.
Brett Newbold, Chief Operating Officer for PCS, said he looked forward to the Boys & Girls Club of Manhattan joining more than 7,000 partner sites and building a long-term relationship with the organization to implement the STEM program for their children.
"We are extremely pleased to receive an order from the Boys & Girls Club of Manhattan and will continue to work with this historic organization so thousands of youth throughout the country can experience PCS programs," Newbold said.
Brian Russell looks forward to seeing how the Boys & Girls Club of Manhattan will prosper and thrive with PCS' robotic program.
