Boston University Dermatology at Boston Medical Center Launches Telehealth Program in Partnership With Iagnosis

Iagnosis, a leading developer of telemedicine solutions and the creator of DermatologistOnCall®, today announces its partnership with the Boston University Department of Dermatology at Boston Medical Center (BMC) to offer patients throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts 24/7 online access to world-renowned experts in dermatology. Patients can access the department’s dermatology care anytime and anywhere using both the mobile and online platforms developed by Iagnosis.

“Boston Medical Center and Boston University School of Medicine strive to provide world-class patient care to every patient we see. This teledermatology program now allows us to provide that same world-class care anytime, anywhere for our patients to access at their convenience.” said Rhoda Alani, MD, chief/chair of the department of dermatology. ”It’s a great opportunity for the academic dermatology experts of Boston University to be on the forefront of telemedicine and to continue our pursuit of excellent care, every time for every patient.”

Dr. Rhoda Alani, MD, Chair, Department of Dermatology - Boston University School of Medicine

The online visit solution used by BU Dermatology at BMC is based on Iagnosis’s existing teledermatology platform, which is now used by more than 175 U.S. board-certified dermatologists to service patients in 34 states. Boston Medical Center is the first academic medical center in the U.S. to launch the teledermatology program by Iagnosis.

Here’s how it works:

·       New or existing patients of BU Dermatology can start a visit by accessing the group’s website at http://www.bmc.org/dermatology/immediate-dermatology-appointment-online.htm  or through the mobile app “BU Dermatology at BMC” available on the App Store or Google Play™.

·       The patient first creates an online account and completes their secure patient profile, including medical background and preferences for delivery of treatment.

·       The patient uploads multiple photos and describes their current condition.

·       Once the visit is submitted, a BMC dermatologist will review the information and return a diagnosis and personalized treatment plan including any needed prescriptions – typically within 24 hours (but may be up to three business days).

·       The out-of-pocket fee to conduct the online visit is $79.

Payment for online visit fees can be made using any major credit card. Patients can also use provided forms to obtain reimbursement from their Health Spending Account (HSA), Health Reimbursement Account (HRA), or Flexible Spending Account (FSA).

This teledermatology program, built by Iagnosis, allows patients to start a visit with the dermatology physicians of Boston University at the patient’s own convenience, any time of any day. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the average wait time for a new dermatology appointment in the U.S. is 34 days. For students, professionals, families and those far away from a dermatology office, the hassle of missing work and school, driving long distances, or waiting months for an appointment can be a significant detriment to timely, efficient and quality care. However, with the availability of this new program at BMC, most patients will be able to get a diagnosis and treatment plan in less than three business days, with an average treatment delivery time of less than 24 hours. Furthermore, if a patient has an issue that requires an in-office visit, they can be scheduled for an appointment with Boston Medical Center with no discontinuity of care.

Iagnosis is very excited to partner with Boston University School of Medicine and Boston Medical Center on this offering. These institutions clearly recognize that the pervasive adoption of mobile devices and apps is quickly transforming healthcare access and delivery, much as other industries have been transformed by this trend,” said Dave Zynn, Chief Executive Officer of Iagnosis.

Online dermatology visits conducted on the Iagnosis-powered solution used by BU Dermatology are 100 percent HIPAA and HITECH compliant for patient information security. Plus for added convenience and security, prescriptions written as a result of the teledermatology consult can be submitted using Surescripts® electronic transmission to the patient’s preferred pharmacy in the area.
