Boca Ballet Theatre's Swan Lake to Feature New York City Ballet Principal Dancer Sara Mearns
Online, July 30, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Boca Ballet Theatre is excited to announce that this weekend, Sara Mearns, a principal dancer with New York City Ballet, will guest star in Swan Lake, performing the double role of Odette/Odile - the black swan and the white swan. Mearns will join guest artist Simon Ball, a principal dancer with Houston Ballet, dancing the enchanting role of Prince Siegfried. We are proud to welcome Ms. Mearns to our stage, and are equally thrilled that Mr. Ball will return to our stage after charming audiences as Romeo in 2013's Romeo and Juliet.
Ms. Mearns expresses her sentiments about the role of Odette/Odile as “the most famous, coveted, and sought after role of any ballerina. It is the first ballet that most dancers get to know, and all dancers know the music. It is the most challenging, technically and emotionally, of any classical role. It takes years to truly understand the character and be able to become the swan.”

Subsequently, Mr. Ball shares his thoughts on performing as the Prince: “I think the most interesting thing about the Prince in Swan Lake if that he has high expectations and holds out for a more pure, albeit more challenging brand of love. I think that you can look at the story symbolically and sympathize with this type of character who finds a love that is always just out of reach.”
Considered one of the most famous of classical ballets, Swan Lake continues to mesmerize audiences after more than 100 years, while also inspiring new generations of dancers. Boca Ballet Theatre’s lavish production is staged after the original choreography of Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, and set to the music of Peter Tchaikovsky. This is a hauntingly beautiful performance that you will not want to miss!
