Blue Mountain Security Celebrate with Royal Marines
South Wales, August 17, 2014 (Newswire.com) - This year, the Royal Marines will celebrate their 350th birthday and Blue Mountain Security will be amongst the many people showing their avid support. Nigel Thomas, CEO of Blue Mountain Security is a regular fund-raiser for many military charities and feels highly privileged to have had a successful career with the Marines. “As an ex-Royal Marine, it gives me great pleasure to be involved in such a worthy celebration.” Says Nigel. And what a year of commemoration it will be!
This year will acknowledge over three centuries of constant service to guarding the nation by an organised series of events running from February through to November. With nation-uniting celebrations such as marches, parades and sporting challenges, the whole country is welcomed to join in the commemorations! And that’s exactly what Nigel Thomas and his company, Blue Mountain Security will be doing. As well as providing sponsorship for a luxury anniversary dinner at the Osprey’s Liberty Stadium in Swansea, Nigel and his fleet of staff from Blue Mountain Security will be providing the much-needed support for one of the celebration’s outdoor challenge events. In addition to this, they will also be spreading the good word of the anniversary through their extensive network of contacts.
Showing the country what a prestigious celebration this is, Prince Harry recently demonstrated his ongoing support by wishing good luck to a troop of Marines about to complete the final phase of their ‘1664 Challenge’. The epic feat saw six Royal Marines ski 1664 km from North to South Norway, sail the same distance from Norway to Cadiz, cycle 1664km from Cadiz to Calais, canoe across the English Channel and run 1664 km through England, Wales and Scotland - a whopping total of 4136 miles! In an impressive echo of determination and big-heartedness, Nigel Thomas himself will be once again raising money for military charities and others by cycling the entire length of the UK on a 1940’s butcher’s bike. Setting off on the 18th August with a plan to complete the challenge in just 13 days, Nigel will sleep outdoors and only enter buildings to charge his mobile phone and tracking devices! This outstanding exploit, together with the incredible accomplishment of the ‘1664 Challenge’ shows to the whole country the courage, excellence and selflessness of the military forces – past and present.
Since their formation in 1664, the Marines have participated in more battles on sea and on land than any other division of the British Armed Forces. Today, the Royal Marines are the UK’s Commando Forces and the Royal Navy’s amphibious troops. Comprised of a specialist force of elite soldiers, the Royal Marines are trained and equipped for international rapid response; with the abilities and facilities to handle high level threats and security issues. Perhaps a slightly mysterious military division to the modern generation, 2014 is the year that will shine the spotlight on this respected and admired band of soldiers. And that’s exactly what Nigel Thomas and his company, Blue Mountain Security will be helping to do.
