Bloodstock Agent Clark Shepherd Launches Shepherd Equine Advisers

Bloodstock Agent

Longtime thoroughbred bloodstock agent & sales adviser Clark Shepherd has launched Shepherd Equine Advisers, a new full-service thoroughbred portfolio management company.

From his time on the breeding side as a pedigree analyst to his most recent experience as partner in the consignment company Allied Bloodstock, Shepherd is venturing out on his own and into the public forum for the first time. His services will be principled on proven systems that have garnered many breeding successes over his nearly 30 years in the industry, including personally mating several Graded stakes winners through his "OPTIMAL Mating" system.

Among the most prominent racehorses that Shepherd designed the mating for is Kentucky Derby (G1) winner and champion Animal Kingdom, and 2017 Metropolitan Mile (G1) winner Mor Spirit.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to build relationships with like-minded people who, very simply, are looking to buy or breed a better racehorse," said Shepherd. "Success in this business is not by accident, and it can be had if you laser-focus in on the right things. I like to call it 'designed luck' - or utilizing the principled tools and measures that have proven to be successful."

"I've been really fortunate to have a lot of great experiences as a bloodstock agent working in many facets of this industry at many levels, including the breeding and sales areas of the business. It's given me a front-row seat, and you learn the discipline and key factors required to find the right opportunities among a sea of wrong opportunities. I believe it has all equipped me with a confident ability to help others enjoy success and have a well-constructed game plan," he added.

The services that Shepherd Equine Advisers will focus on include: Sales Representation & Consultation, Mating & Pedigree Analysis, Stallion Seasons and Shares and Comprehensive Portfolio Management.

Shepherd's past and current clientele include the likes of prominent owners & breeders Larry Hirsch, owner of Highlander Training Center, and Stuart Grant, co-owner of Eclipse Champions Monomoy Girl and British Idiom.

Hirsch endorsed Shepherd by saying, "Clark is a superb pedigree analyst. He utilizes his comprehensive knowledge of bloodlines to select the appropriate breeding for a broodmare considering both sales potential and expected racing performance of the future foal. His expertise includes providing effective assistance at weanling, yearling and 2yo sales. I couldn't be more pleased with our relationship."

Grant added, "Clark brings integrity and independence to his recommendations. His engineering background causes him to make data-based decisions rather than running with the latest market fad. Much of The Elkstone Group's breeding success has been attributable to Clark."

Shepherd summed it up by saying, "Whether someone is new to the game, has more losses than wins, or is simply seeking a new approach, I am confident that I can assist anyone in breeding or purchasing a superior racehorse."
