Bizare Art Festival Brings Top Graffiti Artists to Paint Live and Honor Lord Bizare

The third annual Bizare Art Fest gathering of graffiti artists, b-boy dancers, DJ's, MC's, rappers and live bands takes place January 30th at Calwa Park in Fresno.

Bizare Art Fest, a free community event, is a colorful explosion of talent painting more than 70 murals at Calwa Park.  Calwa Park is the only location in the Fresno area that gives a legal platform for displaying graffiti art.  On Saturday, January 30th artists from Nevada and all across California will come together to show graffiti is real art by real artists who have a passion and gift for what they do.

While graffiti art traditionally has had a negative reputation, during the past decade graffiti art has continued to gain credibility within the artistic communities throughout the world.  A genre of art once ignored, it now holds a prominent role in the modern art market.  Many attribute the recent marketability of graffiti art to the explosion of the art itself which is now recognized by over 50 universities world wide as a legitimate art form.  With Bizare Art Fest graffiti is celebrated as art and not vandalism.

Inspired by Lord Bizare, the founder of the famed graffiti crew, Lords, Bizare Art Fest honors his life with a celebration of all of the elements of hip – hop he so loved and perfected.  As a b-boy dancer, DJ, MC and graffiti artist, Lord Bizare was a visionary and ambassador of hip-hop culture working hard to gain graffiti the respect it deserved as a legitimate art form.  Bizare Art Fest  gives life to his legacy with a day of live art, music, and dancing.  With a kid zone including face painting and bouncers and an assortment of arts & craft vendors, not too mention the live painting, Bizare Art Fest is free fun for the entire family.

In it’s third year, Bizare Art Fest continues to provide a platform for graffiti artists to showcase their talent.  This year the festival coincides with the 30 year anniversary of the  Lords which gave birth to many critically acclaimed graffiti artists.  Some of the original members of the founding Lords crew will attend.

Don’t miss an opportunity to experience live art and authentic hip-hop culture this Saturday, January 30th from 11:00am to 6:00pm at Calwa Park in Fresno.  “I am excited and proud to once again host an incredible collection of artists to create extraordinary graffiti art,” says Serena Lujan, sister of Lord Bizare and organizer of the event.  She continues,  “my goal with this event is to not only celebrate my brother’s legacy but also help change the negative views of graffiti.”

Calwa Park is located at 4545 East Church Street in Fresno, California.  Bizare Art Fest invites people of all ages to attend this free art celebration.  For more information go to facebook/BizareArtFestival.  To schedule an interview with event founder, Serena Lujan, or with any of the original members of the Lords that will attend, contact Veronica Jacuinde of La Luz Public Relations at (310) 508 – 1896.
