Birla Academy of Art and Culture Organises Mural Workshop

U.S. Consulate General in collaboration with Birla Academy of Art & Culture and "Banglanatak dot com" is going to host the mural workshops by eminent Mural Artists in the Academy Premises.

U.S. Consulate General in collaboration with Birla Academy of Art & Culture and “Banglanatak dot com” is going to host the U.S. Mural Artist Joel Bergner and his wife, artist and activist Karla Jayne Thomas in the premises of the Birla Academy from February 2016. Joel will work with the young leaders and local artist of the city and create a mural on U.S.-India Relationship in the Academy premises. In this regard, the Academy is inviting all the public members and dignitaries to savour the visual treat. The timings of the public viewing is kept from 4-6 p.m. every day except Mondays.

A mural is a piece of artwork that is painted directly on a wall, ceiling or any other large permanent surface. One elementary characteristic that distinguishes a mural painting from other forms of art is that all the elements of modern architecture of the space provided are incorporated into the picture in a synchronised manner.

About the Organisation

The Birla Academy of Art & Culture was established in 1967 under the patronage of visionary leaders Shri and Smt. B.K. Birla, to catalyse the growth of art and culture in Kolkata. The Academy, being famous today for its endeavours in artistic, educational and cultural activities, fosters the growth of visual and performing arts. Shri Birla’s Art collection hobbies resulted to the establishment of a public Charitable Trust in the year 1962 which was meant to collect, preserve and exhibit artwork to the public. The activities of the Academy today are collecting, preserving and displaying museum objects, hosting exhibitions, Organizing cultural performances and educational programmes of varied nature. Currently the academy holds artworks of many renowned artists of India and abroad. The Academy surely holds a 40 years old rich heritage within itself and counts on to the glorious saga of Kolkata’s memoirs.
