FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
2010 Black Family Technology Awareness Week Summit
BEYA Middle School VEX Robotics Championships
(Baltimore, MD) January 2010 - Parents, are you looking for an exciting, fun, free educational event that will engage and inspire your kids? Then get the family together and come to the 2010 Black Family Technology Awareness Week (BFTAW) Summit where the smartest young minds in Baltimore and from across the country will battle it out during the finals of two VEX robotics competitions. The events will take place at the Baltimore Convention Center on Friday, February 19, between 9:00 AM and 4 PM and continue on Saturday, February 20, between 10 AM and 4 PM. The event is free and open to the public.
The BEYA college, high school and middle school VEX Robotics competitions will inspire and motivate impressionable young minds to enhance their skills in the critical STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering and math). Attendees will also get a better understanding of why it is critical to develop leadership and problem-solving skills while displaying their raw talent in a competitive environment. Again, this year's competitions are part of Career Communications Group's national campaign to urge students to explore and pursue careers in the STEM disciplines.
According to Tyrone D. Taborn, US Black Engineer and Information Technology magazine publisher and CEO, "The Black Family Technology Awareness Campaign was never about simple Internet access and mere computer ownership, but rather about African Americans becoming true beneficiaries of the many assets of technology and all it has to offer. The robotics competitions are a great opportunity to see the implementation of several different core STEM skills by the country's brightest youth in a fun environment."
IBM, the Cardinal Health Foundation and USBE & IT magazine are proud sponsors of the eleventh Black Family Technology Awareness Week and corresponding programs nationwide. Visit the Black Family Network website at www.blackfamilynet.net for more information about how to join the campaign.
The VEX Robotics Competition is the largest and fastest growing middle and high school robotics program globally with more than 2,000 teams from 20 countries playing in over 170 tournaments worldwide. The VEX Robotics Design System is affordable, robust and offers an assortment of over 200 of the most advanced educational robotics products available today. See www.vexrobotics.com for more information on the VEX Robotics Design System and the VEX Robotics Competition.
