Belgium to Increase Minimum Salary for Type "B" Work Permit Workers
Online, November 21, 2013 (Newswire.com) - The Belgian government has announced a nearly two percent increase in the minimum salary requirements for highly skilled foreign workers applying for Type "B" work permits. This change will be effective 1 January 2014, reports Nair & Co.'s Human Resources team. The minimum annual salary requirement for highly skilled foreign nationals applying for a Type "B" work permit will increase to €39,422 from €38,665. The minimum annual salary requirement for senior managers and executives-level foreign nationals will increase to €65,771 from the previous €64,508. After these new regulations become effective, applications failing to meet the new requirements will be rejected.
It must be noted that foreign nationals applying for work permits as trainees are given an exemption from the aforementioned requirement.
Companies planning to hire expats under the Type "B" work permits are advised to adhere to the new minimum salary requirements. Also, for expats already working in Belgium under Type "B" work permits, renewal applications would also have to meet the above minimum salary requirements.
