Begade Releases SDK for Cloud Music Storage and Mixing
Online, February 14, 2011 (Newswire.com) - San Diego, CA - 14 February 2011 - Begade introduced an SDK today that includes a JSON based API, complete source codes for a music collaboration iPhone app and a revenue sharing business model. Developers can use the SDK to integrate with an existing app or website or develop a new product. The Begade Cloud organizes stems into projects that can be accessed by one or more users. A stem is a single sound such as a guitar or a vocal which combine into a song. In a collaborative environment, the ability to mix in the cloud is essential because it dramatically reduces the amount of time that musicians have to spend downloading different stems and then configuring them with a local mixer just to try out a combination.
In the provided Begade collaboration app, musicians can listen to and modify multiple mixes from their iPhone or iPad. The Begade Cloud SDK provides music app developers a way to easily incorporate cloud storage, mixing and user permission management for global collaboration. Developers of any music app from a simulation of an instrument such as a guitar or piano or a full blown amp can now enable their users to not only store the stem but actually mix them before downloading all of the stems into their personal recording studio.
How the API Works
Musicians working on a song need their music stems available at all times. The Begade Cloud manages the storage of stems that are organized into projects and can be mixed on the fly. mixing. Begade Cloud API calls associate users with a particular project, under the control of the project owner, and mix the stored stems on-the-fly. Access to the API is done by an app using secure industry standard protocols such as JSON and HTTP. Developers who use the API get the benefit of a revenue share with Begade for each paid use. Begade protects developers by assuming the cost of API calls that do not produce revenue.
Said Chase Nutter, Director Business Development for Begade: "I have used many music apps. The Begade API provides a way for these apps to combine their output and play together. Combined with our ability to integrate with ProTools and GarageBand, the Begade API brings all of these great mobile music apps into a unified cloud access system."
Available Immediately with Source Code for Developers
The Begade app is commercially available in the Apple AppStore and is free. So that musicians can get started, the app installs with four projects that have royalty free content and an open project for generating new content. Musicians have an entire month to test out Begade before getting a subscription to the service. Developers can submit a request to Begade for free access to the source codes of the reference Begade app.
