Bee Certain Announces Launch of Wireless Honeybee Hive Monitoring System
Seamless Tracking of Hive Vital Signs Increases Honey Yield and Reduces Colony Loss
Tidewater, Oregon, August 4, 2016 (Newswire.com) - Bee Certain today announced the release of an innovative and cost-effective honeybee hive monitoring system allowing beekeepers to track the health and productivity of their bees and hives more effectively than ever before. The wireless solution seamlessly tracks the vital signs of honeybee colonies enabling data driven hive maintenance and ensuring healthier honeybee populations.
The Bee Certain system integrates sensors monitoring hive weight, along with the temperature and humidity inside and outside the hive, into a real-time data stream of the critical vital signs of hive health. The wireless system installs easily, without hive modifications and automatically stores years of data for up to 50 hives on a single system recorder. Beekeepers can easily access data and graphical views of data over time through the web browser on a personal computer, tablet or smart phone.
“We are excited about the impact our hive monitoring solution is having on the health and productivity of honeybee colonies” said Bob Barter, founder of Bee Certain. “Better hive management practices will come from better data, and the release of our system today makes it easier for beekeepers to monitor the key indicators of hive health and productivity” added Barter.
Pollinators play a crucial role in world agriculture, so it is immensely important that we keep honeybee populations healthy. Technology like this from Bee Certain can play a critical role in collecting more robust data that will help beekeepers take preemptive measures to counter the declining bee population trends we see occurring today.
The Bee Certain starter system consists of a weight sensor, hive monitor and environmental monitors (temperature and humidity) and one system recorder. The turn-key solution allows the beekeeper to monitor honey production and consumption throughout the year, while tracking the vital signs of temperature and humidity inside and outside the hive. This integrated look at hive health and productivity can reduce the need for intrusive manual inspections and alert the beekeeper if a visual inspection or other preventative action is needed to save underperforming hives.
Apiary health is of critical concern to beekeepers, researchers and stakeholders from a wide range of industries that rely on honeybees for pollination. “Pollinators play a crucial role in world agriculture, so it is immensely important that we keep honeybee populations healthy. Technology like this from Bee Certain can play a critical role in collecting more robust data that will help beekeepers take preemptive measures to counter the declining bee population trends we see occurring today.” said Lynn A. Royce, Ph.D. founder of Tree Hive Bees and researcher who has studied pollinators for more than 30 years.
About Bee Certain
Bee Certain was founded in 2015 by Bob Barter a retired electronics engineer and now citizen scientist, farmer and yes Beekeeper. Bob and wife Linda raise a wide range of fruits, vegetables, animals and bees on The Old Strawberry Farm along the Oregon coast. Bob’s love of electronics and his fascination with apiculture led him to launch Bee Certain with the goal of designing a cost effective and accurate hive monitoring solution. The mission at Bee Certain is to give beekeepers a cost effective means by which they can learn more about their bees and become better beekeepers using accurate and cost effective technology available today.
