Barbara Genda's Bespoke Designs Featured in Kitchens Bedrooms Bathrooms Magazine
Online, July 19, 2013 (Newswire.com) - Barbara Genda's London based furniture design business has once again been featured in a national UK design magazine after the company undertook to design luxurious fitted units for a family townhouse in Belgravia, London, and ended up more or less redesigning the look and feel of every room.
When the family originally bought the Edwardian listed property they thought all they would need to do is choose a few new paint colours and freshen up the decor to put their own stamp on the place. However, once they had moved in they realized that the previous owners had used low quality fittings to tart up the house for sale and that these furnishings would not stand up to the rigmarole of daily family life with 2 young children and a third on the way.
However, the property came with its own design problems. As it was a listed building, many features could not be altered such as the windows and cornices. Barbara Genda and her team had to think carefully about how to design and fit wardrobes around these features. Eventually Barbara came up with the idea of using curved edges on ceiling height dark coloured wardrobes in the master bedroom to maximize storage space but ensure that the window recesses were still visible and curtain rails easily accessible. The wardrobe had to be carefully cut around cornices. Matching bedside cabinets were also included and all had curved drawers to balance the curved edge of the wardrobe unit. An elegant bed with a fabric headboard and striking wall paper behind completely the look.
The colour scheme was carried through to the en-suite bathroom with the same dark coloured vanity cabinet and subtle sand coloured tiles.
Next came the challenge of creating a room that would grow with a child as he or she matured from a baby to a teenager. Currently the room houses a crib but with child-friendly bedside tables offering enough space in-between for a small double bed once the child reaches the early teenage years.
As the kitchen is most usually the heart of any family home and the home owner had been particularly impressed with a kitchen Barbara Genda had done in another property, she asked the design company to come up with a bespoke design that would not break the bank but was attractive and still functional. To keep costs to a minimum all appliances were left where they were when the property was purchases to avoid having to change water or electrical installations and ceiling high white storage units put down the entire length of one wall, the other wall having surface space for food preparation. The units were finished in a walnut veneer and a striking green splash back added to give some colour. The walnut colouring was taken through into the living area with the flooring and also a floating console unit under the wall mounted flat screen TV.
The clients were thrilled with the results and retained Barbara's services to help with the interior design of much of the rest of the house, with help choosing wallpaper and fabrics, designing a bespoke sofa and bespoke bookcases.
The rooms were then featured in June's issue of Kitchens Bedrooms and Bathrooms with glossy photos and descriptions for anyone interested in checking out the bespoke design service.
