Baltimore Events, Inc. on Cultivating a Good Company Culture

The managers at Baltimore Events, Inc. recognize that the interactive marketing firm's success is tied to the positive culture they've cultivated from the start. As they continue to grow, maintaining this culture is vital.

“A company’s ethos speaks volumes about how they do business,” explained Matthew, Baltimore Events, Inc.’s director. “It aligns the workplace atmosphere with the company’s stated vision and values. If continual learning is one of your core values, but there’s no training offered to help team members continue to advance and grow, what does that tell people?”

Matthew highlighted the reasons why a strong company culture is essential to sustain growth. “When a business forms, the founders have a vision and they know the type of company they want to run,” he said. “They know what’s important. Successful companies recognize that the happier their associates are, the more independent and confident they feel in their abilities to produce exceptional results, and the more they’ll deliver. Therefore, these founders have strived to cultivate a culture that supports this type of team.”

"There are so many ways in which to maintain a positive and supportive culture,"

Matthew, Director

“A good corporate culture centers on trusting the team to do the right thing. If you can’t place confidence in your associates to get the job done, why are they there?” Matthew asked. Micromanaging a team only serves to make them resentful and demonstrates that the leader is insecure in his or her own abilities, he explained. It serves to create hostility, as does berating a team.

Matthew went on to say that, “An effective coach inspires and shows appreciation. He or she uses mistakes to help the team learn and grow, not feel threatened. If everyone is always worried about failure, then they won’t stretch out of their comfort zones. A supportive culture allows them to feel secure in trying something new or suggesting innovative ideas. This is what you ultimately want.”

Baltimore Events, Inc.s Director Discusses Creating a Thriving Company Culture

As Baltimore Events, Inc. continues to grow, Matthew noted that bolstering their company culture is imperative. “Our managers are committed to ensuring that our core values of personal motivation, learning, and a competitive edge are upheld, regardless of our scale,” he said. “Therefore, we constantly review our team reward policies and our training offerings to align them with our vision and values.”

“To keep our people energized and engaged, we have frequent contests and competitions that are friendly, yet focused on good goal-setting strategies,” Matthew continued. “Appreciation is also demonstrated in many ways, like thank-you cards and surprise treats. We want people working hard, and smiling while they’re doing it.”

“There are so many ways in which to maintain a positive and supportive culture,” Matthew concluded. “The key is to finding out what works for your team and keeping it going.”
