Backstage Secrets
Michelle Shingler & Vincenza Astone
Debut novelists combine efforts and experience to give readers a behind the scenes glimpse into the conference and live events world, with charming and hilarious results.
Martha is a single woman in her thirties who just loves her job as a teleprompter in the conference and live events industry. As the doyenne of the autocue, Martha is often centre-stage, living in a whirlwind of endless travel, deadlines, budgets, planning, parties and stress; real-life always seems to be about what happens when Martha's made other arrangements. Arriving in glamorous Cannes, in the South of France for a very important fashion company conference, Martha together with the crew who range from show callers to lighting technicians and audio visual engineers start another hysterical adventure. On this event, Martha has her head turned by the gorgeous Senior Vice-President of KAYSO Inc., Howard Johnson III, who seems intent on seducing her in his lavish hotel suite. Her one golden rule of never sleeping with a client is on the verge of being broken right away. Although she's very flattered by Howard's attention, Martha's heart still really lies with Alexandre, a married man who's broken her heart many times over. When fate brings Martha, Howard and Alexandre together, Martha will have to decide whether or not she is going to stick to the script, or create a love story of her own.
Backstage Secrets is a delightfully confident work of women's commercial fiction, boundlessly energetic, insightful and touching in equal measure. Perfect for today's celebrity-obsessed readers, authors Michelle Shingler and Vincenza Astone pool their shared experiences of working on international events to illustrate the colourful lives of those who make these glittering events a reality.
About the Author: Michelle Shingler has been a teleprompter at conferences and events all over the world for over twenty years. Vincenza Astone left her job in motor-racing and has since worked in the events industry.
