Author Kenn Sharpe's New Book, 'On the Way to the Sea: A Boy's Journey to Manhood,' is the Story of a 19-Year-Old Facing the World on His Own for the First Time

Recent release 'On the Way to the Sea: A Boy's Journey to Manhood' by Newman Springs Publishing author Kenn Sharpe tells the story of 19-year-old Jake Shaw embarking on a journey to manhood, finding love, humility, failure, and success along the way.

Kenn Sharpe, a Navy Vietnam veteran, has completed his new book, "On the Way to the Sea: A Boy's Journey to Manhood": a gripping coming of age tale. During his time in the Navy, Sharpe worked his way through the enlisted ranks, retiring as a lieutenant commander officer of the line with multiple sclerosis. His last tour of duty was as the Navy program director of the Air Traffic Control and Landing Systems Joint Program Coordinating Office in Washington, D.C. After retirement, he started his own aviation consulting company, providing domestic and international commercial and civil aviation support to the U.S. Department of Defense. He returned to Washington, D.C., and worked for several aviation systems support and consulting companies, supporting both commercial and military organizations. Before his retirement in 2019, he was a senior program manager for a global telecommunications company, writing management and transition plans for federal government telecommunications proposals. Kenn has been writing short stories and novellas for the past eight years, and this book is his first novel. He and his wife now reside in a small community on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland.

Published by Newman Springs Publishing, Sharpe's highly relatable tale follows Jake Shaw, who has just entered his second year at Monterey Peninsula College. Having left his aunt's house in Carmel Highlands, Jake is living independently for the very first time in his life in a small apartment in Pacific Grove. Jake embarks on his journey to manhood, taking him from the Central California coast to the high mountains of the eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains.

On his way to achieving the wisdom of manhood, he encounters his first true love and the emotional roller coaster of a relationship. He also confronts life-and-death challenges and the lessons of radical acceptance.

Readers who wish to experience this potent work can purchase "On the Way to the Sea: A Boy's Journey to Manhood" at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iBooks Store, Amazon, or Barnes and Noble.
