Author Jeanne Newby's New Book 'The Zinc City, Webb City, Missouri' is an Expression of the Fascinating History of a Small Mining Town in Southwest Missouri

Recent release "The Zinc City, Webb City, Missouri" from Newman Springs Publishing author Jeanne Newby is a partial collection of research done by Jeanne Newby in her thirty-one years of writing a weekly column in the local newspaper "The Webb City Sentinel," known as "Ancestors, Legends and Time," that would include approximately 1,612 articles.

Jeanne Newby, who graduated from Webb City High School in 1969 and has served on the Webb City R-VII School Board for over 20 years, has completed her new book "The Zinc City, Webb City, Missouri": an engaging work that details the history of Webb City, Missouri, part of the well-known Southwest Missouri Mining District.

Author Jeanne Newby writes, "The coolness of fall was setting in as Murrell and Webb began their search for lead in the rich farm dirt. Murrell brought nothing but mining experience to this new partnership. John supplied the land and the tools. But alas, the miners had troubles as the shaft kept filling with water. Each morning, they would have to empty out the water before they began their digging. It didn't take long for Murrell to lose interest; after all, he didn't have anything invested but his time. He thought the ore would be close to the surface, and it would be like walking along and gathering the rich rocks. So when W. A. Daugherty, Webb's neighbor, came along and offered Murrell $25 for his interest in the mine, Murrell jumped at the deal, and he was on his way. After all, he usually made a mere dollar a day in the mines, so $25 was a small fortune."

Published by Newman Springs Publishing, Jeanne Newby's memorable work was inspired by the author's strong connection with and love for Webb City. Jeanne has shared her love of history with many organizations, such as the Historical Society, The Genealogy Society, and The History Commission. The Missouri House of Representatives presented a resolution that named Jeanne Newby as the local historian of Webb City.

Readers who wish to experience this fascinating work can purchase "The Zinc City, Webb City, Missouri" at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iBooks Store, Amazon, or Barnes & Noble.
