Atkinson Takes Indefinite Leave of Absence
Florida, August 19, 2014 (Newswire.com) - On Wednesday August, 20, at 12:01 AM, Representatives for Professional golfer Lathan Atkinson announced that he has taken a leave of absence from the Asian/European PGA Golf Tour for an undisclosed period of time. Atkinson who turned Pro in 2013 and was on the Asian Developmental Golf Tour last year, officially announced today that he will be leaving competitive golf due to personal, medical and other unspecified reasons. This comes as a bit of a surprise since Atkinson was recently reinstated after serving a five month suspension due to a number of no shows earlier this season. The news of Atkinson comes after the recent suspension of PGA golfer Dustin Johnson for failing his third drug test in four years. It was recently discovered that both Johnson and Atkinson were scheduled to start filming and appear on a reality based television show about the every day life of professional golfers and their personal relationships. This news comes as a shock to executives and producers of the show and they have not yet been reached for comment. Atkinson who was considered a surprise and an up and coming talent in the golf world, was expected to regain the tour later this year after coming off suspension. Atkinson who has endorsement deals with California based company Oakley and Mizuno Golf out of Japan have also not yet been reached for comment. Until further notice officials from the USGA and PGA will consider Atkinson non-active and he will most likely need to re-qualify for his 2015 tour card.
