ATCorp Set to Release CYRIN - the Next Generation Online Cyber Security Training Platform

Online Cyber Security Training

CYRIN cyber security training platform

Architecture Technology Corporation (ATCorp) will formally launch CYRIN, an online, always available cybersecurity training platform, on March 19. The service will start with 22 completed and tested exercises (including a free exercise) with another 17 expected to be ready during the next six months. CYRIN is a next-generation cyber-range where students use real tools, real attacks, and realistic scenarios to hone their skills in a virtual environment.

Developed initially for the military, CYRIN allows someone to "virtually" secure a Linux server system, analyze the security of a web application, or respond to a denial of service attack in a controlled environment. Students can practice on their schedule from within their browser. No custom software or travel is necessary.

CYRIN takes Cyber Ranges into the 21st century. Designed as an online, always available platform, it was initially developed for the military, as a method to enhance training for people in charge of some of our most sensitive networks. CYRIN uses real tools, real attacks, and realistic scenarios to allow students to hone their skills in a virtual environment.

Ken Thurber, President of Architecture Technology Corporation

CYRIN is designed as an e-learning product to be used without an instructor. It can also work as a classroom (physical or virtual) tool to be used with an instructor. As a classroom tool, CYRIN incorporates a robust performance management capability and also the capability for the instructor/administrator to develop his/her exercises.

CYRIN is a next-generation “cyber range” for on-line interactive training and testing. CYRIN is an advanced e-learning platform that integrates instruction, live exercises and performance monitoring and evaluation.

CYRIN provides a number of Benefits

CYRIN improves upon existing cyber range systems with four central innovations:

(1) a fully interactive, independent on-line exercise
interface for each student,

(2) a graphical exercise builder,

(3) comprehensive performance monitoring of student progress against learning objectives within practical exercises and

(4) a catalog of exercises under six major modules designed to train students on offensive and defensive cyber-attack exercises. Combined, these innovations make effective on-line e-learning possible, saving money and time.

Key Ingredients

THE CYRIN EXERCISE BUILDER: As a key capability of the CYRIN cyber range training platform, the system offers a powerful “agent-based” exercise builder software module. This module allows the IT manager, the CISO, administrators, instructors, and trainers to develop their own very specific CYRIN exercises.

The CYRIN PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT MODULE: This capability allows the training manager or instructors to monitor individual student performance in “real time.” There are several ways that students can complete each individual exercise, and the performance management module tracks the progress of each student who works on his or her own virtual environment through the completion of course exercises.
