At-Home Medical Device for Treatment of Stretch Marks Now Available
First device of its kind to be cleared by FDA
MISHAWAKA, INDIANA, May 17, 2016 (Newswire.com) - Strialite®, the first-of-its kind medical device cleared by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the at-home treatment of stretch marks, was released to the public for the first time today.
“Stretch marks” are defects in the skin caused by damaged collagen that occurs from rapid skin stretching. Much like a wrinkle, the underlying collagen in a stretch mark, is damaged permanently but can be improved.
"Patients have been asking me how to get rid of their stretch marks for my entire career. But when my own 18-year-old daughter was upset about the stretch marks she'd developed from puberty, it really hit home. After all these years, no one had developed a solution. So, I decided to do it myself. And it's why we're introducing the first, FDA cleared, safe, effective and pain free device that diminishes the appearance of stretch marks—a device my own daughter used in her own home and got amazing results."
Dr. Ronald K. Downs, Founder of Strialite and The Centre, PC
Developed by Dr. Ronald K. Downs, board-certified plastic surgeon and founder of The Centre, P.C. in Mishawaka, Indiana, Strialite® is a patent-pending, hand-held device that combines the medical benefits of topical warming with skin penetrating, light emitting diodes (LEDs) to diminish the appearance of red stretch marks. The 633 nm light emitted by Strialite® penetrates the skin’s dermis layer and stimulates the cell’s mitochondria to produce more collagen. At the same time, the Strialite® heating elements help to increase circulation which allows vital collagen building blocks to travel to the stretch mark region and begin the pain free, effective, healing process*.
“Patients have been asking me how to get rid of their stretch marks for my entire career,” commented Downs. “But when my own 18-year-old daughter was upset about the stretch marks she’d developed from puberty, it really hit home. After all these years, no one had developed a solution. So, I decided to do it myself. And it’s why we’re introducing the first, FDA cleared, safe, effective and pain free device that diminishes the appearance of stretch marks—a device my own daughter used in her own home and got amazing results.”
Downs will personally introduce Strialite® to the public on Thursday, May 19 at an aesthetics and medical spa products event in his hometown. The event expects to draw more than 2,000 men and women.
“Stretch marks can happen when skin is stretched too far during pregnancy, or from sudden weight gain or loss, during puberty or even by men who are weightlifting,” added Downs. Anyone with stretch marks, male or female can use Strialite®, though it’s intended for people between ages 18-50. Downs cautions women who are pregnant should not use the device.
The treatment can be applied on the abdomen, hips, thighs—anywhere stretch marks have developed. Users apply Strialite® to the desired area for 20 uninterrupted minutes, two times a week. Results can be expected within 2-6 weeks of use and can vary per individual. Some individuals will require more or fewer numbers of treatments to achieve adequate improvement. No two people are the same. But most people start to see improvements in their stretch marks after two weeks.
Strialite® launched a commercial website at the time of the product launch. For more information on the Strialite® device, its application, usage, instructions, testimonials and other efficacy standards, visit www.strialite.com.

* A clinical study was conducted to assess the effect of Strialite® on the temporary reduction of redness of the subjects’ red stretch marks. Thirty of the 33 subjects enrolled completed the full series of 8 treatments over 4 weeks. Sixteen out of 30 subjects reported, upon self-assessment, improvement of the severity of the redness of their stretch mark of at least 2 grades when graded on a scale of 1 to 10 from baseline to post-treatment. As a secondary endpoint, blinded photographic assessment was performed and the blinded evaluation identified 18 of the 30 subjects as demonstrating improvement. Two subjects that self-assessed as having the worst appearing lesions (grade 10) did not show any improvement throughout the study. For the best results, treat each area twice each week for 4 weeks. Results will vary and may take more or fewer numbers of treatments to achieve adequate improvement from one person to another. Most people start to see improvement in their stretch marks after two weeks of treatments.
