Ashford Hopes For German Train Agreement To Be Signed
Online, October 21, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Regeneration partnership Ashford's Future is hoping to meet with German train operator Deutsche Bahn to ensure its proposed high-speed services from London to Frankfurt stop at Ashford International Station.
Ashford is said to be the only town in the UK with a full high-speed service and is already a stopping point for Eurostar services to France and Belgium.
Ashford's Future says it hopes Deutsche Bahn will want to take advantage of the town's central Kent location and its links to the rest of the South East.
Deutsche Bahn plans to run three-time daily return train journeys between Frankfurt and London via Cologne, Brussels and Lille from 2013. There will be connections from Amsterdam via Rotterdam to London.
The new services have the support of the UK rail minister Theresa Villiers, who says they will be a welcome addition to the UK government's plans for a high-speed rail network.
Meanwhile, French train builder Alstom is seeking an injunction in an attempt to stop Eurostar from awarding a £500m order for new high-speed trains to a German company.
Siemens, of Germany, won the tender for the new trains beating off Alstom, which built the existing Eurostar trains.
Alstom is taking legal action to stop the contract being signed but Eurostar is fighting the action, saying Siemens won the bid fairly and squarely.
This will help all travelers from UK to Germany and France to plan their holidays and book Cheap Train tickets by Eurostar and German Trains. it will also reduce the monopoly of the fastest travel train Eurostar.
