There is a national tissue shortage both in the United States and worldwide so even if we were to take in double our donors annually, we still would not be able to meet the needs of the medical communities.

UTN's mission is to empower people who want to make a difference through whole-body donation. Whole-body donation is a pathway for people to leave a lasting legacy by contributing to the advancement of medical technology and training.

During her time on the shows, she educated the community on whole-body donation, through the explanation of the differences of organ donation and whole-body donations. She also explained who is eligible to be a whole-body donor and a few common reasons why people decide to pledge their bodies to science.

Whole-body donation is an end-of-life option. Similar to being an organ donor, one can pledge to be a whole-body donor. The main differentiator is that organ donation is utilized and prioritized for transplants; saving lives today. Whole-body donation is utilized to advance medical technology and training; saving lives in the future.

"There is a national tissue shortage both in the United States and worldwide so even if we were to take in double our donors annually, we still would not be able to meet the needs of the medical communities," Steine-Davis said.

UTN covers the basic cost of passing, however, another motivator is the lasting legacy a pledge can leave behind with an impact on the medical community and helping the advancement of surgeries and medical devices.

There are a few restrictions that may hinder one from pledging, UTN is one of the more inclusive donation companies. UTN also offers different resources and has knowledgeable staff available to answer any questions.
