​The Arcadian Events culture consists of energy, expertise, support, and recognition. One way the Director of Operations recognizes team members is by distributing awards. She discussed the latest to be presented.

Associates will receive certificates for wearing business management attire. Sarah explained that such professionalism is important to career success. She said people should dress for roles they aspire to reach – not necessarily the ones they currently have.

“It’s not that I emphasize business attire because I’m a stickler for fashion,” Sarah continued. “It’s just that I’ve read up on the research. Believe it or not, dressing up a bit can improve productivity – whether the tasks at hand involve negotiating, sales, public speaking, or something else.” 

Sarah referenced a study led by Michael W. Kraus, who is an assistant professor of organizational behavior from Yale’s School of Management. The study involved a diverse group of more than 100 professionals. They engaged in a variety of role-playing activities with the goal of shedding light into the ways clothing affects outcomes. They were separated into three groups. One group wore sandals, T-shirts, and sweatpants. Another wore business suits. The other wore neutral clothing – whatever they were wearing when they arrived at the location of the study. 

“Kraus found that the participants in business attire were the most successful in all their exercises,” Sara noted. “Especially in competitive situations, formal clothing conveys confidence. The people in this group were aware that they were respected by their counterparts in the activities, which in turn enhanced their self-assurance.” 

According to the Arcadian Events Director, other studies support these results. For example, research published in the Social Psychological and Personality Science journal found that people who dress up engage in more abstract thinking than those who dress casually. 

“Of course, what constitutes formal dress depends on factors such as industry and location,” Sarah concluded. “As far as Arcadian Events is concerned, jackets go a long way. Whether we’re wearing skirts or pants, tailored jackets and sport coats add just the right touch. It’s not about name brands or anything overly fancy. We simply aim for capable and professional – and it works!”
