Apple Outs IPod Touch 5 In Five Colors, Starting At $299

At its iPhone launch event on September 12th, Apple announced the fifth-generation iPod touch that features Retina Display, A5 processor, and iOS 6. The new iPod Touch will be available in October at $299 for the 32GB model and $399 for the 64GB

At only 6.1mm thin and 88 grams, it is the lightest and thinnest iPod touch to date. As the just announced iPhone 5, the 5th-generation iPod touch incorporates the same 4-inch screen in 16:9 aspect ratio and 1136-by-640-pixel resolution. It also includes Siri and the same A5 chip as iPad 2. The enhanced built-in battery is rated for 40 hours of music playback, or 8 hours of video. iPod touch 5 will be sold in five colors: silver, slate, blue, yellow and pink.

The rear camera on iPod Touch 5 is upgraded to a 5-megapixel backlight-illuminated camera with flash light and autofocus. It now shoots 1080p video, with the new FaceTime HD camera shooting 720p video. Bluetooth 4.0 is also supported on the new model. Besides, there's hidden feature on the back of the new iPod touch called the "iPod touch loop", and wrist straps in matching color will ship in October.

First introduced back in 2007, the iPod touch family now has had the 5th generation model. However, it's not easy to assign iPod touch to a particular category of device, considering the fact that it serves multiple purposes. iPod touch is a music player in nature, but it can also be used as a videogame player and an intelligent terminal.

With the release of the 5th-generation model, iPod touch now can be labeled in more ways than ever before. It is a digital camera, a HD video recorder, an intelligent assistant, and many more things. With iPod touch 4, we may not confidently claim that iPod Touch is an iPhone that can't make calls, because its display, cameras and RAM aren't quite up to snuff with iPhone's. Yet the upgraded iPod touch 5 is now much closer to being an "iPhone without a phone".

It's worth noting that iPod touch 5 got a serious update to its camera hardware - a 5MP backside-illuminated camera with a hybrid IR filter, five-element lens, f/2.4 aperture and LED flash, making the upgraded camera as powerful as that on iPhone 4 and the New iPad. Moreover, it now supports 1080p video recording and panorama shooting.

In fact, many iPhone users have had an iPod Touch, which gives people an access to iOS at a very low cost. Spending only $299, iPod touch users can expect to use almost the same apps and the operating system as those on iPhone. The low price of iPod touch makes it quite popular among students; they may not yet own a cell phone, but have already got an Apple ID, become familiar with the iOS UI design, and made purchases of various apps, and. The iPod touch "halo effect" finally turns many such customers into iPhone users.

Apple CEO Tim Cook announced at the launch event that over 400 million iOS devices were sold by the end of June. iPod touch, as a basic iOS device, surely makes a great contribution to this stunning sales.
