Anthony Sages Praises New Non-Profit Education Initiatives
Online, July 3, 2012 (Newswire.com) - According to a recent article from The Wall Street Journal, the Walmart Foundation announced an effort to support six nonprofit groups to encourage educational, professional and nutritional growth among children in need. The group will supply $20 million in grants to support these programs that aim to encourage productivity during summer months - a time when children are reported to take part in unhealthy diets, reduce educational efforts and struggle with employment. Anthony Sages, a financial expert who works with several nonprofit organizations, notes that this effort is a major step forward in developing American youth.
The article highlights the Walmart Foundation's particular focus on education. Wall Street reports, "It is also well-documented that children who do not engage in educational activities during the summer months experience learning loss." In an effort to correct these statistics, Walmart Foundation will supply over $8 million to ICP, the NSLA and BELL to develop summer learning programs that will help more than 16,000 students take part of a structured learning program that aims to improve literacy and classroom participation in the upcoming school year.
"I applaud Walmart and these nonprofits for giving children a chance to keep learning," says Anthony Sages, "People have a unique ability to learn great amounts during their younger years, and I encourage any effort that pushes children to take advantage of their formative years."
Sages also commends the group's focus on nutrition and fitness. The article discusses a growing problem among disadvantaged students who leave school for the summer; they no longer have access to the nutritionally balanced meals supplied through public school systems. In order to maintain proper diets, Y-USA and the NRPA will be using $6.5 million from Walmart Foundation to provide 10 million healthy meals to children in "low income and underserved communities."
As an avid surfer and health fanatic, Anthony Sages encourages active lifestyles for everyone in the country. "I have seen what a difference the focus on healthy diets has made in areas all around Southern California, and I hope that these programs will expand that improvement all over the nation," remarks Sages.
The third initiative proposed by Walmart Foundation is to give teenagers greater opportunity for employment. Led by Brandeis University, over $5 million will go towards expanding job opportunities to inner-city adolescents. For Sages, lessons learned from work experience are invaluable. "Working at a young age not only helps expose individuals to potential career paths, it also helps develop strong character that is necessary to succeed in today's world."
