Annual Automotive Event 'International Go-Kart Championship-2016' Concluded at LPU

Jalandhar, April 11, 2016 (Newswire.com) - Encouraging students to apply their theoretical knowledge into creative and dynamic automotive forms, Lovely Professional University organized four-day International Go-Kart Championship (IGC)-2016, which concluded today at its campus. Showcasing excellent design, sturdy construction and efficient kart, the teams DSI Racing (Bangalore), Vijayant (Bhopal) and ZEAll’16 (Coimbatore) won first prize (Rs 1 Lakh), second (Rs 50,000) and third prize (Rs 30,000) respectively. In all, cash prizes worth Rs 2,50,000 were distributed to the best teams adjudged in different fields. Of 68 teams registered from Sri-Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan & 11 Indian States, only 25 teams had qualified to compete in the final racing round. LPU Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal awarded the glittering trophy and cash prizes to the winning teams. The event was telecasted live on ‘youtube’ across the globe.

Inaugurated by renowned bollywood film-producer & UTV Group founder Ronnie Screwvala,  the four day event was concluded in the esteemed presence of Senior Manager, Training & People Development Engineering, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd Mr Mohit Varshney and Senior General Manager from iCAT (International Center for Automotive Technology) Mr U D Bhangale. LPU Director General Er HR Singla had waved the green flag for final racing of Vehicles (Go-Karts).

Near 1000 students and faculty members from across India and neighbouring countries participated with strong belief to be judged as the best engineering team. After pre-final rounds based on technical, endurance and dynamic tests, the race of 24 laps (near 50 Kms) was to be covered in an hour for all the finalized Go-Karts.  The final teams used engines of 100 to 125cc in their vehicles for top speed of 80 kms and an average speed of 40-50 kms per hour.

 Society of Automotive Engineers & Collegiate Club (LPUSAE CC) of LPU School of Mechanical Engineering had monitored the whole event for 20,000+ spectators, who witnessed innovative engineering students’ self-designed go-karts speeding up on the LPU track. The participating students had to design and fabricate their ‘Go-Karts’ in extremely low budget, and to be fit for several tests and tasks. The collaborating partner of the championship was Republic Motors, which also held workshop for students’ encouragement and skills development. One of the mentors of participating teams, Assistant Professor S Venkatesan from Dr NGP Institute of Technology (Coimbatore) shared: “Saying in one word, I claim the event was ‘excellent’ in every aspect. We are thankful to LPU which keeps on organizing such research oriented, practical and innovative activities for student community as a whole.”
