The AMWA President's Achievement Award was presented by President Dr. Eliza Chin to Surgeon General Dr. Regina Benjamin and FDA Commissioner Dr. Margaret Hamburg during the Awards Gala during the AMWA Annual Meeting.
Regina M. Benjamin, MD, MBA is the 18th Surgeon General of the United States Public Health Service. As America's Doctor, she provides the public with the best scientific information available on how to improve their health and the health of the nation. Dr. Benjamin also oversees the operational command of 6,500 uniformed health officers who serve in locations around the world to promote, protect, and advance the health of the American People.
Margaret A. Hamburg became the 21st commissioner of food and drugs on May 18, 2009. The second woman to be nominated for this position, she is an experienced medical doctor, scientist, and public health executive. As the top official of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Dr. Hamburg is committed to strengthening programs and policies that enable the agency to carry out its mission to protect and promote the public health.
