America's Favorite Satirical Theme Park Celebrates 10 Years of Twitter Comedy

The park is fake, but the anniversary is real. @FakeThemePark is celebrating 10 years of daily Twitter jokes with a week-long celebration starting July 5.

Princess Peppercorn celebrates the @FakeThemePark anniversary

On July 12, 2010, former Universal Studios tour guide Jason Ginsburg posted the first tweet of @FakeThemePark, a fictional attraction whose daily posts on Twitter and Facebook satirize the properties of Universal, Disney, SeaWorld, and Six Flags. Every day, the fictional park posts humorous announcements. Fans respond, ask questions, and submit complaints, creating a shared world of theme-park weirdness.

Ginsburg’s online creation now includes two critically praised books, a parody of Disney princess songs, a music video, and audio loops of the park’s Halloween maze and famous escalator. He began the account anonymously, only revealing his identity in 2017, an event covered by numerous blogs and podcasts, along with the Orlando Sentinel.

Now, on the account’s tenth anniversary, Ginsburg is pulling out all the stops for a virtual celebration in the cheerfully bizarre tone fans have come to love.

Ginsburg says, “When I started this account, I had no idea how much it would resonate with fans, bloggers, and former theme park employees. The satire comes not just from my experience on the inside but also a lifelong love of animation, Star Wars, and moviemaking.”

For one week leading up to the anniversary, @FakeThemePark will “celebrate” with events on Twitter and Facebook that include:

  • The first-ever podcast interview of the park’s beloved diva Princess Rainbow, played by voice actor Ivy Dupler
  • “The Jimmy Jaguar March,” a new comedy song co-written with theme park composer Nick Hutson
  • Contests to give away copies of the two @FakeThemePark books: If The Princess Rolls Her Eyes, Your Wish Will Come True (2018) and You Must Be This Tall to Exit the Park (2019)

  • Twitter and Facebook posts of the most popular jokes, images, and videos from the last 10 years

  • Interviews with MiceChat, Opinions May Vary, the Season Pass, and other theme park blogs and podcasts, which look back on the craziest moments in @FakeThemePark history

@FakeThemePark has been called “sharp and on the nose” by the Orlando Sentinel, “hilarious” by Frommer’s, “magically funny” by MiceChat, and “a comedy miracle” by the Season Pass Podcast, while LAist declared it features “the best roasts of the theme park industry.”

Ginsburg is available for interviews, as is his stable of characters, including Princess Rainbow, Jimmy Jaguar, and park founder Murph Gantly.

Jason Ginsburg spent nearly a decade at Universal Studios Hollywood, serving as a VIP tour guide, show host, PA announcer, and character performer. He has released two books of both classic and original material.  He's currently a digital TV producer who has created web series for Playboy, Science Channel, National Lampoon, and Home Shopping Network. He wrote the screenplay for Age of Stone and Sky: The Sorcerer Beast, starring Corey Feldman and Jeffrey Combs.
