Alpha Genesis Now Offers African Green Monkeys for Biomedical Research
Expanded species availability strengthens Alpha Genesis' support for infectious disease, vaccine, immunology, and translational research programs.
YEMASSEE, S.C., June 2, 2026 (Newswire.com) - Alpha Genesis, Inc., America's leading provider of nonhuman primate research services, today announced that it now offers African green monkeys (Chlorocebus) as part of its expanding nonhuman primate research portfolio. The addition strengthens Alpha Genesis' ability to support biomedical research programs requiring scientifically valuable, flexible, and cost-effective nonhuman primate models.
African green monkeys are an established and scientifically credible nonhuman primate model with applications in virology, immunology, vaccine development, infectious disease research, metabolic studies, aging research, and translational biology. The species may serve as a valuable alternative or complement to traditional rhesus and cynomolgus macaque models, particularly for sponsors seeking additional flexibility in study design, model selection, availability, and cost.
Through this expansion, Alpha Genesis intends to support qualified academic, government, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical research programs with access to African green monkeys for approved research use, as well as related biological materials and contract research services. Available or planned biological matrices may include whole blood, serum, plasma, PBMCs, tissues, and other study-specific sample types collected under appropriate veterinary and animal care oversight.
"Alpha Genesis has always focused on building the infrastructure needed to support serious biomedical research," said Xavier Westergaard, President of Alpha Genesis. "By adding African green monkeys to our research portfolio, we are giving sponsors another practical, scientifically grounded nonhuman primate model supported by experienced veterinary, animal care, sample collection, and contract research teams."
The expansion reflects Alpha Genesis' broader commitment to strengthening domestic nonhuman primate research capacity and providing sponsors with flexible, responsible, and scientifically appropriate options across species. African green monkeys may be particularly useful in programs where immune biology, infectious disease susceptibility, metabolic phenotype, availability, or study design considerations make them a compelling option alongside macaques.
Alpha Genesis' services include colony management, biological sample collection and preclinical study support, with contract research services under both GLP and non-GLP conditions. The company's infrastructure allows sponsors to combine animal access, procedural support, sample collection, and study execution within a single experienced organization.
"Biomedical research depends on choosing the right model for the right scientific question," Westergaard said. "The availability of African green monkeys at Alpha Genesis expands the options available to sponsors designing efficient, rigorous, and responsible preclinical programs."
