Aleksey Torokhtiy, 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist, to Compete and Teach in San Antonio, Texas This March

The 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist will be traveling to San Antonio, Texas this March to participate in his very first Olympic Weightlifting meet on U.S. soil. Immediately following the competition Aleksey Torokhtiy will be teaching a seminar to help local athletes, adults and children, improve on their technique.

For the first time ever, Aleksey Torokhtiy, 2012 London Olympic Gold Medalist, will be competing in a weightlifting competition inside the United States. The 29 year old Ukrainian champion will be travelling to San Antonio, Texas this March to compete in the 2016 Hookgrip Spartakiad II. Aleksey will finish his trip up with a training session for youth lifters and a two-day seminar for any athlete who wants to improve on their Snatch and Clean and Jerk, both being held at the 210Crossfit gym.

Aleksey will be in San Antonio from March 11, 2016 through March 21, 2016 and available for interviews.

Aleksey started his weightlifting career at the age of 14 when he joined the weightlifting club at his school with the goal of attending university; his family was unable to afford the tuition. In 2004, he decided to leave the sport and focus on his education when he enrolled in the Kharkiv Aviation Institute, where he completed courses in control systems of flying machines. “After I was again invited to competitions, everything began to turn and I found myself in the sport again,” said Aleksey, “After the Olympic Games in Beijing I understood that weightlifting is that thing I want to devote my life to!” He let his 11th place ranking at the 2008 Olympics drive him in his training and went on to win the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics.

Aleksey is now the Vice President of the Ukrainian Weightlifting Federation and dedicates much of his time providing fellow athletes with free programing and training tips online. “I love weightlifting so I share my experience. I create free online programming to unite weightlifters worldwide,” says Aleksey.

  • March TBD: Kid Training Session (ages 8-12) – 210Crossfit
