Adelphi University Department of Theatre Presents Pia Wilson's Generation T
Online, February 24, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Adelphi University students in the Department of Theatre will perform the original production of Pia Wilson's new play, Generation T, from February 25 to March 2, 2014 in the Black Box Theater in the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center (AUPAC) located at 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY. Generation T is the story of two Marines who recently returned from Afghanistan. Their lives are a blur of house parties, drug deals, and PTSD flashbacks, set against the backdrop of the upcoming 9/11 anniversary. The attitudes of those around them are a mixture of indifference and misunderstanding.
Generation T is directed by Maggie Lally, associate professor of theatre at Adelphi University. During her sabbatical she built relationships with theatres and venues that support playwrights, with the goal of bringing a new work to Adelphi for the 2013-2014 season. The students now have the opportunity to work directly with playwright Pia Wilson in creating the first full production of Generation T. The complex and challenging nature of the play allows all students involved—actors, designers and technicians—to have many new kinds of opportunities.
Playwright Pia Wilson has received numerous recognitions for her work. She was a 2011 Heideman Award finalist for her short play, Turning the Glass Around, and was a 2012 resident with the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council's Workspace program. Generation T has previously been featured in the Classical Theatre of Harlem's Future Classics reading series in June 2012.
Adelphi University's Performing Arts Center is one of Long Island's premier cultural arts venues for entertainment of all kinds. Tickets for Generation T are on sale now and are priced at $20.00.
