One such individual was Brett, the director of operations for Ace Management.

“I was born in Redwood City, California,” Brett opened. “I was raised in Newark, played soccer in my youth, and then in high school where I played every sport they offered. I worked for Newark Community Center for six summers in a row, running non-profit camps for kids whose parents worked all day. During community college in Iowa, I received a soccer scholarship at age 22. I graduated from Iowa Wesleyan in 2012 with a degree in sports management.”
Athletics have, therefore, played a key role in Brett’s approach to leadership at Ace Management; his discipline and determination are reflected in his busy schedule, and in his coach-like attitude toward inspiring others. As the director of a busy firm, Brett’s days are demanding, with current activities that require a lot of energy.
He explained, “I wake up at around 5:30 am and go to the gym,” he stated. “Then, I plan for meetings on who will run various projects, how we may impact consumers and personnel, and what issues need to be addressed. I head to one of our physical locations, conduct some interviews, take networking calls from individuals all across the nation, and then break down everyone's day so they are set up for success with a focus on the next day.”
When questioned regarding how his background influenced his approach as a business director, Brett responded, “Since I graduated college, I have placed myself in positions to succeed. Knowing that failure was not an option, I worked to hit my goals. My relentless work ethic and ability to build strong relationships really shape my image as a business leader. ‘Lead by example and show others how to have achieve personal success’ is my motto.”
In particular, Brett talked about the inspiration he received from his Grandpa Nathan, who passed away just last year. “I looked up to him and his work ethic. He always talked about living in Nebraska and putting in time on his parents’ farm. I looked at what he had done and his attitude on life. He was the reason why I have worked so hard in everything that I have done and started to look at the little things I have, and appreciate every single one of them as if they would be gone tomorrow.”
In the immediate future, Brett revealed “I intend to open and build a strong satellite office in a new region within the next four to six weeks. I also expect to be promoting three people to management of new offices within the next year. Everywhere we go, we’ll plant roots that are strong and stable, and grow along with the individuals we hire.”
