The AAGL (American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists) has registered almost a quarter of its total worldwide membership – a near record amount - to attend its annual Global Congress being held November 14-18, 2016 in Orlando, Florida. AAGL’s Congress is the premier scientific conference that provides gynecologic surgeons from all over the world with the latest education and best practices in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery (MIGS). The theme of AAGL’s 45th Global Congress is “Advancing Gynecologic Surgery through Mentorship and Emerging Technology” and will focus on clinically relevant topics as well as recent developments, instrumentation and surgical techniques presented by expert faculty.

The CME (continuing medical education) offerings include 25 Postgraduate Courses, 7 Surgical Tutorials, 8 Plenary Sessions, 8 Panel Sessions and 5 General Sessions. “The near-record number of over 870 abstract submissions offers an unprecedented amount of data and experiences to learn from. A highlight of the meeting will be the Jordan M. Phillips Keynote Speaker during the Opening Ceremony. Physician-astronaut and five-time NASA space shuttle flier, Dr. Scott Parazynski will be delivering his address on Innovation in the Extreme. As an astronaut, Dr. Parazynski was instrumental in developing a mentorship program within the astronaut corps that increased the ratio of spacewalk-qualified astronauts from 25% to more than 80%. Providing some much-anticipated entertainment value will be “Operating with the Stars”, a creative spin on the popular ABC-TV series Dancing with the Stars. Three expert “star” surgeons will be paired with three attendees and each team will perform live cadaveric surgery on stage using their preferred route (laparoscopic, robotic, or vaginal). Special judges and audience response will provide entertaining commentary and team points.
