Fine art hits the foothills once again when Canton Festival of the Arts comes to Brown Park in Canton, Georgia the weekend of May 19-20. This year's festival boasts two full days of activities, entertainment, and education. Admission and parking is free.

Less than an hour away from downtown Atlanta, Canton is a perfect mix of scenery and refinement that's ideal for a weekend of culture and the arts. Canton Festival of the Arts is a signature event of the Cherokee County Arts Center that includes an artist market, serenity gardens, and a literary celebration that comes complete with a star-studded array of author panels.

Among the authors in the panels is Joe Dabney, author of the popular Smoke House cookbooks, and Bill Cosby's nephew Braxton Cosby who heads up a young author's panel about "sci-fance," his unique mixture of science fiction and romance.

The popular Artist Market returns this year with more than 60 exhibitors from around the Southern states and beyond. Watercolorist Elly Hobgood, wood turner Bill Bromley, and photographer Kim Bates will be returning to the festival, which will also feature a wide variety of new faces.

For those with green thumbs, or with brown thumbs wanting to discover their inner gardener, the Serenity Gardens will teach you all there is to know about gardening, canning, and generally living a green lifestyle. Also see real beehives on display and discover how bees are being used to treat certain illnesses around the world.

Canton Festival of the Arts also features hands-on children's activities, including the opportunity to paint on a live mural with assistance from local artists. Children can also check out entertaining improv classes, get their hair done up in wacky styles, complete a DIY project, and learn about tool safety with Home Depot.

Canton Festival of the Arts is a perfect spring getaway for the family that seeks a unique artistic experience! A wine and beer garden and plenty of delicious food round out the total festival experience. Head up to Canton the weekend of May 19-20, 2012 and enjoy the festivities and culture in full view of the beautiful North Georgia mountains.
