A Night of Jokes and Jazz to Benefit "Justice For Vets"
Online, June 23, 2011 (Newswire.com) - - It will be a night of laughter, entertainment, and great music as comedian and actor, Alonzo Bodden and Jazz legend, Denny Seiwell perform to benefit veterans. "Jokes and Jazz for Vets" will raise money to support "Justice For Vets," an organization supporting Veterans Treatment Courts for veterans in the criminal justice system who struggle with substance abuse and/or mental health disorders stemming from combat.
The "Jokes and Jazz for Vets" benefit will take place on Monday, July 18th at 7:30 p.m. at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, MD. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. to the public. Tickets are available online for $25.00 at www.JusticeForVets.org or for $30.00 at the door.
Comedian Alonzo Bodden was the winner of the third season of NBC's Last Comic Standing and later served as a talent judge on the show. He has appeared on Comedy Central and various late-night talk shows including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Conan, and many more. Bodden has also been featured in "Scary Movie 4" and "Bringing Down the House."
Acclaimed musician Denny Seiwell is best known for working alongside Paul McCartney as one of the founding members of the post-Beatles band, "Wings." Denny's skills on drums are in high demand; he has worked with superstars like Joe Cocker, The Who, James Brown, Billy Joel, Janis Joplin and many more. Seiwell's performance will combine music and storytelling as his new band, The Denny Seiwell Trio, performs songs from their new album, Reckless Abandon. The trio, which features guitar, drums, and keyboard, will share their behind-the-scenes stories from the album's creation.
Proceeds from the event will benefit "Justice For Vets," which provides resources and training for Veterans Treatment Courts. These courts identify veterans who have been arrested and are dealing with substance abuse and/or mental health disorders stemming from combat. Veterans Treatment Courts combine treatment and accountability while connecting veterans with the appropriate benefits and services they have earned. Veterans Treatment Courts save money and resources; helping veterans regain their honor and become productive, family-oriented heroes in their communities. "Veterans Treatment Courts are coming to the aid of the men and women in uniform who are suffering as a result of their sacrifice to this country and should be expanded to serve all veterans in need", said General (ret.) Barry R. McCaffrey, former U.S. Drug Czar. The event is open to the public and the media.
