To get a clear idea on what seems to be winning, we decided to speak to a couple of serious newsreaders, Mandy and Gerald. Mandy is studying law at the university while Gerald runs a business offering services related to travel and tourism. Both of them follow news headlines religiouslyeveryday day and have their own preferences towards the news media.
We threw a few questions at both Mandy and Gerald to understand their views.
Do newspapers have the upper hand?
Mandyloves reading newspapers and magazines. She feels that a newspaper offers her something that the television or radio will never be able to - the freedom to decide on what news to go through and at what time of the day.
Gerald feels that newspapers often lack the real time news that one may want to go through. Newspapers get printed and a lot may happen by the time you lay your hands on your copy. This is where he feels the television scores more.
Are television news channels and newspapers here to stay?
Both Mandy and Gerald agreed that a lot of newsreaders have actually shifted from newspapers and television news channels to online news portals. According to Mandy, even though this shift has happened, this will not actually work towards shutting down newspapers and news channels on the television.
Gerald feels that newspapers and TV channels may lose more viewership in the future, but they are always going to stay. Both these media offer readers and viewers to simply sit back, relax and enjoy the news. Online news channels still require readers to log on to the internet, search for the relevant news and then read through it.
Why are online news portals gaining the importance?
Finally, when asked for reasons why online news channels may be gaining the popularity today, Mandy and Gerald had very similar reasons to share. One of the main reasons for this popularity, according to them, was the popularity of the internet and ease of connection. Moreover, handheld devices like smartphones and tablets let users connect to anything real time using the internet.
"Whether you are looking for news videos or real time headlines," Gerald states, "online portals like FastNewsRelease.com and others have it for you! This definitely adds to the popularity of online news portals."
